Title: Start Where You Are
Author: Chris Gardner
Publisher: Amistad (2009)

Have you seen The Pursuit of Happyness? Will Smith stars as Chris Gardner who is a homeless single dad trying to make a career in finance. It’s an OK movie that would be much better if a quarter of the movie wasn’t Will Smith running. Apart from Gardner, that movie doesn’t really have anything to do with this book. This book is more of a self-help/confidence builder/figure out your life type of thing.

Start Where You Are: Life Lessons in the Pursuit of Happyness by Chris Gardner is a nice book about, basically, how to get to where you want to be…and how to start now! This is a very optimistic book, which was nice to read considering all you read in the news is terrible. The format of the book is very easy to read. There are 44 lessons on topics such as hard work, planning & getting over the past.

I don’t know that there is anything particularly groundbreaking in this book…but it is a good, confidence building read. Gardner is a great storyteller and the book reads very quickly. If you think you are stuck in a rut and are trying to figure out where to go next…this is an excellent book to check out.
