Book News: Dan Brown Back For More
April 24th, 2009I know there are fans of Dan Brown and The DaVinci Code out there. Whenever someone makes a list of the all-time greatest books ever it is always on there. I am perplexed by this as I thought the book was boring and had poor character development. But I know there are plenty of fans out there…and I’m sure they are wicked stoked that Brown has written a new book. It is a sequel to The DaVinci Code and it is called The Lost Symbol. From the Kansas City Star:
Doubleday is planning an initial print run of 5 million copies, the largest ever in the history of its parent company, Random House.
WOW. That is a ton of books to print on the first run. Of course, DaVinci sold like 80 million copies…so it’s probably a safe bet. My guess is that Random House is VERY excited to be able to have a guaranteed best seller in these trying times for publishers.
I don’t know if I will end up reading it or not. I don’t get a chance to read very many novels these days, so when I finally do read one…it probably won’t be this one.

You’re not the only non-fan of Brown. For me, the worst part was the pacing – let’s rush around the city/country and finally begin to reveal some info then have the police come and the rushing around must begin again. After a while that got REALLY OLD. So no, I will not be reading this new book … and I’m quite happy with that decision.

I may read it if I have time. I actually sort of liked The DaVinci Code. I wouldn’t put it up there as one of the greatest books of all-time, certainly, but it was an entertaining way to spend an afternoon. I wonder if I would feel the same way if I re-read it now. I read it years before starting my blog…

I never even got to the book. The movie was mildly interesting, but nowhere near actually being exciting. My hubby and I actually had the ending figured out like halfway through.
Interesting that he has such name recognition though.
