Cancer on $5 a Day by Robert Schimmel
February 27th, 2009Title: Cancer on $5 a Day
Author: Robert Schimmel
Publisher: Da Capo Press (2008)

Just based on the title, this doesn’t seem like a very uplifting book. Generally things related to cancer aren’t quite good things. But this book is different, mostly because it was written by Robert Schimmel…who is a stand up comedian. If you know know who he is, then this won’t come as a shock…but this book is pretty raunchy. Unforunately, I had no idea who Robert Schimmel was and thought it was going to be a funny book about his fight with cancer. And it was funny and inspiring…but there are certainly some very “blue” moments in this book.
Cancer on $5 A Day: How Humor Got Me Through the Toughest Journey of My Life by Robert Schimmel picks up right when he is diagnosed with cancer. It tracks through pretty much everything he goes through during his fight. He decides he won’t let the disease take over his life (or something like that) and tries to stay positive through the whole experience. He also makes a lot of jokes.
Honestly, I don’t really know what else to write about this. If it was cleaner I would recommend it to people because it is pretty uplifting. But it’s not clean at all. So I guess read at your own risk!
