Book News: Kindle 2 Is Here
February 25th, 2009On Monday Amazon started shipping out the Kindle 2, which is obviosuly the second version of their book reader. Of course, if you download books to read you are a total loser and probably have very few facebook friends. (At least according to “Trust Me” on TNT). From Information Week:
The success of the first Kindle brought attention to the market potential of e-books and readers, which until the Kindle had attracted few customers. Today, most Kindle sales have been to professionals who travel a lot and appreciate the alternative to carrying several paperbacks, newspapers, and magazines, analysts say. That, however, could change in time, if Amazon or its rivals, which include Sony, drop the price of their readers to appeal to a more general audience.
I agree that the price is going to have to drop to really get people to buy them. I just can’t rationalize spending $370 on it. Plus, I get almost all of my (non reviewing) books at the library. I assume the library isn’t going to let me download books for free?
OR WILL THEY?!?!
Does anyone plan on getting a Kindle 2? Does anyone want to buy me one?

My sister in law just ordered a Kindle2…like you I can’t justify it.
Now, if there were just one e-book format and the library would allow you to download e-books for free, I would most certainly reconsider. Perhaps…

I was waiting for the Kindle 2. Planned on purchasing it. The reason I didn’t go with the first one was over the PDF issue. I just knew they’ve fix that…NOT! Until I can read PDFs as well as the ones from the ADOBE eReader software, then no. That’s what I am holding out for. You can read these files with Sony, but you can’t adjust the text. My only hope is for this new one coming out in 2010 from Plastic Logic. I just hope it will be available in the US.
