Book News: Kids Prefer Video Games

January 30th, 2009

It seems like this article is written fairly often and here it is again. Kids like playing video games more than reading. This is no surprise to me. There is a group called “Reading is Fundamental” (which is a hilarious name for a group trying to encourage reading…it’s so boring! Kids aren’t interested in fundamentals!) that wants to educate parents how to encourage their children to read…blah…blah…blah. Here is the best part of the article:

It’s not easy, getting kids to put down video games and pick up a book. But Rading Is Fun says if you show kids reading is a priority for your whole family, and start early, you’re on the right track.

hahahahaha. I can’t tell if that is a joke or not?

First of all…”Rading” is not a word.

Secondly…The group is called “Reading is Fundamental” NOT “Rading is Fun”.

So kids…put down that Playstation controller. Go to the library. Pick a good book. Then lay down on the couch and GET RADING!!!!!

After finding out how fun ‘rading’ is, maybe some of these kids will find a successful career in professional proofreading!

You know, when I was a little girl and I wanted a reference on how to spell or punctuate something, I would just pick up a book and look for an example. With the decline in copyediting these days, it’s no wonder kids aren’t interested in reading more. It’s too embarrassing!
