Book News: Michael Phelps is an Author too!
September 13th, 2008Michael Phelps is king of the world right now. He is hosting Saturday Night Live tonight (although I’m not sure if that is show is significant anymore) and just signed a $1.6 million deal to write his autobiography/memoir. From The Cleveland Leader:
The minimum price tag just to start dealing was $1 million, which went up after half a dozen major publishers took a look at it. Dominik Anfuso of Free Press ultimately landed the deal.
The book is being dubbed an “inspirational memoir”, and according to the publisher Phelps will reveal secrets of his success, as well as give a behind-the-scenes look at his approach to training, competition, and winning. The narrative thread is expected to be the eight final swims of the 2008 games, where Phelps earned his record-breaking 8 gold medals. The book is expected to hit bookshelves by December.
While I’m sure reading about Phelps’ behind the scenes will probably be interesting, I’m not sure if his approach to training is going to do much for me. I imagine it will look something like this:
- Be born with a freakish body type, including a giant torso and huge feet
- Learn how to swim
- Eat 12,000 calorie diet
- Win gold medal after gold medal
- Practice breaststroke in newly constructed silo of gold coins
It may be a little more detailed…but that’s probably about it.
Hopefully I will be able to review this when it comes out in December…just in time for Christmas!

Haha! Being born to wealthy parents who pay for you to train 24/7 probably doesn’t hurt either.
