Book News: David Foster Wallace Dead

September 14th, 2008

Sad news from the LA Times:

David Foster Wallace, the novelist, essayist and humorist best known for his 1996 novel “Infinite Jest,” was found dead Friday night at his home in Claremont, according to the Claremont Police Department. He was 46.

His wife came home only to find that her husband had hanged himself.

Wallace was an excellent writer. Unfortunately his final act was a sad and selfish one.

This is terrible news! I have never worked up the gumption to read Infinite Jest. I wonder why he made that choice. He must have been in a lot of pain. Very, very sad.
